![]() I looked into rechargeable NiMH and Li-ion batteries, but my understanding is that the NiHMs don’t provide the same voltage as disposable alkaline at max charge (less voltage = less fun) and while rechargeable li-ions would solve the cost problem of disposable li-ions, they’re expensive and its hard to find high quality ones (most seem to be cheap Chinese products). I’ve never tried Li-ions because they’re too expensive to justify for disposables. Lithium Ion batteries should provide an almost constant 1.5V until they die compared to normal alkaline batteries, which have a voltage curve resulting in a less powerful (and fun) toy over time. I bought a pack of store brand AAAs as well as a box of Amazon Essentials AAAs and am satisfied with them. I’ve only used regular alkaline AAA batteries in these toys. At this point, the battery isn’t useable with the toy, but it should still have enough charge to operate low power devices like remotes, so save them for use in another device.īottom line: Use regular alkaline AAAs unless you already have rechargeable or you’re willing to spend lots of money on rechargeable li-ions. Usually they keep driving forward when they hit a wall or another toy even when you stop pressing that button. At some point your batteries will reach a charge level where the toy doesn’t respond to your inputs. I’ll usually swap out old batteries for new ones when I play with other people (family gatherings, etc.), and keep the old ones to put back in when I’m playing with them by myself. new ones is noticeable and can really improve how much fun you have with these toys. I’ve experienced low batteries out of the box, and the difference between batteries with a low charge vs. Put new batteries in your toy right when you open it, and swap out old ones whenever it seems like your toy is slowing down. Thank you!īottom line: use new batteries and change them often. If your experience is different from mine with these products or you have useful information that I haven’t included, please let me know. I start with some general information about batteries, playing with the toys, and safety/modification, then move onto my comments about the products. I hope this is useful to those of you out there trying to decide which of the toys to spend your hard-earned money for yourself or your families. I’ve seen several reviews of these toys on this subreddit, but none as comprehensive as this one. With the holidays approaching, I decided to put together a guide for all the Hexbug Battlebot toys I own (most of them), so people can decide which ones to buy and how to best use them.
